Businessmen Group (BMG) Chairman Zubair Motiwala and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Jawed Bilwani have welcomed the commerce secretary's decision that suspended the order of the director general trade organisation (DGTO) and reinstated the KCCI's elected office-bearers and managing committee.

Speaking at a media briefing at the KCCI on Thursday, they vowed that they would continue to serve the business community indiscriminately under the longstanding public service policy.

While terming the decision an affirmation of democratic governance in trade organisations, Motiwala criticised the arbitrary actions against the KCCI, making Pakistan's largest chamber dysfunctional.

He emphasised that such disruptions would create uncertainty among businesses, damage investor confidence and hinder economic growth. "The Karachi Chamber has always been the strongest voice of the business community and undermining its democratic leadership can create a confidence deficit," he remarked.

He pointed out that the KCCI had taken historic initiatives to facilitate trade, promote exports and address the concerns of businesses across Pakistan.
