Lily Stewart, a 20-year-old University of Georgia student, has gone viral after her smiling mugshot surfaced online following a speeding arrest.
Stewart, a member of the Alpha Chi sorority, was pulled over on March 8 in Morgan County for driving 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. Shortly after receiving a ticket, she unintentionally began speeding again, reaching 84 mph, leading to her arrest.
The Morgan County Crime page shared her mugshot, which quickly gained traction on social media. Users flooded the post with comments, calling her “Miss America” and jokingly requesting Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to pardon her. Some even offered to pay her bail, with one writing, “Guilty of stealing my heart, your honor.”
Despite the online buzz, Stewart’s lawyer, Stephen Morris, had the speeding charge dropped, citing harassment she faced due to the viral mugshot. However, she will still complete community service and a defensive driving course.
Stewart, amused by the internet’s reaction, told The New York Post she doesn’t understand the hype. “I just took a mugshot and went on with my day,” she said, adding that her well-groomed appearance was due to heading to a friend’s birthday party.
As the internet continues to debate her “hot mugshot,” Stewart remains unfazed, laughing off the attention while complying with the remaining legal requirements.
