RAWALPINDI:

The Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police has requested information of Afghan nationals that have been arrested by the police throughout the province.

Afghan nationals holding citizen cards and visas whose validity period has expired are required to verify their legal status by April 1, 2025. Otherwise, they may face deportation as illegal residents. As per sources, the police are implementing a phased checking process for foreigners residing illegally in Punjab, including in Rawalpindi.

A senior police officer, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed to The Express Tribune that authorities have issued an advisory concerning Afghan citizens with expired or close-to-expiration visas or residency cards. Afghan nationals have been instructed to renew their documents by April 1.

In addition, the IG Punjab has asked divisional and district police chiefs across the province, including Rawalpindi, to provide reports on Afghan nationals arrested in the province.

The IG Punjab has also issued a pro forma request for detailed information in a structured format, which includes serial numbers with names, FIR numbers with the nature of the crimes, the police stations where cases were registered, details of the arrested individuals, and their legal status, such as whether they have been declared proclaimed offenders.
