RAWALPINDI:

A Rawalpindi court has granted an additional four-day physical remand of a couple accused of torturing their 12-year-old domestic worker to death over eating their child's chocolate.

The suspects, Rashid Shafiq and his wife Sana Shafiq, were presented before Civil Judge Muhammad Imran Qureshi, who ordered their return for further proceedings on February 21.

Meanwhile, a third accused, Rubina Naveed, who was sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand, has filed for bail.

According to the police, Rashid Shafiq and Sana Shafiq brutally beat the young girl after accusing her of stealing and eating their daughter's small chocolate.

The assault left severe injuries on her head, face, and other sensitive areas. Neighbours rushed her to the hospital, but she succumbed to her wounds.

The couple was brought to court under tight security, with their faces covered.

Investigators argued that further interrogation was needed, prompting the court to approve the extended remand.

The bail plea of the third accused, Rubina Naveed, will be heard by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Tariq Ayub on February 18.

The police have been directed to present the complete case record and investigation report. Naveed claims she has no involvement in the crime and insists that only the arrested couple can provide accurate details of the incident.
