Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani, said on Wednesday that motorcycles and rickshaws will not be allowed on the Malir Expressway once completed.

Saeed Ghani confirmed this during a visit to the ongoing Phase-I construction of the project on Wednesday. The minister further stated that any violations of traffic rules on the expressway would result in fines.

Saeed Ghani further emphasised that the Malir Expressway would be a significant development for Karachi, calling it a "gift" from the Sindh government led by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He expressed confidence that the project would transform the city’s infrastructure and contribute to easing traffic congestion.

Once completed, the expressway is expected to drastically reduce travel time across Karachi. The journey from Korangi to the airport will take just 20 minutes, while travel between Korangi and other nearby areas will be completed in approximately five minutes, he noted.

A day earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has issued instructions for the installation of an automatic toll system at the under construction Malir Expressway.

Chairing a meeting in Karachi on Tuesday, Sindh CM unveiled that the toll system will feature 18 booths, providing an efficient and seamless experience for commuters.

The toll fee for cars will be Rs100, while buses will be charged Rs200 for using the Malir Expressway, the meeting told. The chief minister also issued directions for the completion of the Quaidabad Interchange within two months.

The security arrangements for the expressway were also discussed, with plans for 7 to 8 police vehicles to patrol the route.

CM Murad also mandated the presence of an ambulance and fire brigade for emergency situations and instructed the immediate arrangement of a Rescue 1122 ambulance for the expressway.

The meeting was informed that the first 9-kilometer segment of the Malir Expressway has been completed, while CM Shah expressed his intention to open the segment for public use on January 11 or 12.
