Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has hinted that the first section of the Malir Expressway will soon be opened for the public.

A meeting on the progress of the Malir Expressway was held under the chairmanship of Sindh CM, with the participation of Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Special Assistant Qasim Naveed, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odhno, and others.

During the meeting, the CM was informed that the first 9-kilometre stretch of the Malir Expressway has been completed.

Murad Ali Shah mentioned that he aims to open the first segment to the public on January 11 or 12, Express News reported.

The CM also instructed that the Quaidabad Interchange should be completed within two months and the Shah Faisal Interchange to Airport Road should be improved.

It was further informed that the toll tax for cars on the Malir Expressway will be Rs 100, while for buses, it will be Rs 200.

A total of 18 toll booths will be set up along the expressway. Additionally, 7 to 8 police mobiles will be deployed for patrolling along the route.

The CM also directed that car patrolling and automatic toll collection systems should be implemented.

The meeting also highlighted that the Malir Expressway will pass through the jurisdiction of five police stations.

The CM directed that all these police stations should ensure security along the expressway.

An ambulance and fire brigade will also be stationed for emergencies, and arrangements should be made for the immediate availability of Rescue 1122 ambulances.

Previously, CM Murad Ali Shah, without protocol, conducted a surprise morning inspection of the Malir Expressway's nine-km stretch between the Jam Sadiq Bridge and the Shah Faisal Interchange, demanding completion by the end of December so that it could be open for traffic.

Addressing the Karachi Commissioner, DIG Police and DMC representatives, he sternly warned regarding encroachment.

"The project must be finished by December 30," CM said, directing Engineer Khalid Mansoor to expedite construction.

He emphasised the importance of removing all illegal structures and parking along the expressway, from the Shah Faisal Interchange to the airport, to ensure smooth traffic flow.
