Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially divorced, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. The judgment was finalized 20 weeks after Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, citing irreconcilable differences.
The couple, who rekindled their romance in 2021, married in an intimate Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, followed by a larger celebration in Georgia in August 2022. Lopez filed for divorce exactly two years after their Georgia wedding, listing April 26 as their separation date. The news has drawn significant attention due to their high-profile status as Hollywood icons and fan-favorite couple.
Lopez submitted the filing at the Los Angeles County Superior Court without a lawyer. She requested no spousal support for either party, noted that shared assets and obligations would be determined later, and requested to legally restore her name to Jennifer Lynn Lopez.
Speculation about marital strain began in May 2024, as Lopez and Affleck were rarely seen together. Lopez promoted her film Atlas and attended the Met Gala solo, while Affleck worked on The Accountant 2 in Los Angeles. Despite occasional reunions, such as family gatherings and joint public appearances, the couple largely spent the summer apart. Sources close to Lopez shared that while she initially hoped to work through their issues, the relationship ultimately could not be saved.
Lopez has since publicly reflected on her independence, saying she is “capable of joy all by myself.” She made her first post-divorce public appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival, while Affleck continues to focus on his production projects. The former couple, who share children with their respective ex-spouses, appear to be maintaining an amicable relationship post-divorce.
