Actor Glen Powell is at the center of a major Hollywood bidding war for Homewreckers, an erotic thriller with a sci-fi twist.
The project, based on an unpublished short story by Neil M. Paik, has studios like Warner Bros., Sony, Legendary, Lionsgate, and New Regency competing for rights.
Powell is set to star in and produce the film, which promises tones reminiscent of Adrian Lyne’s steamy classics like Fatal Attraction and Alex Garland’s thought-provoking sci-fi work like Ex Machina. Paik, known for crafting compelling short stories, will adapt his three-chapter piece into a screenplay.
The buzz surrounding Homewreckers caps off an impressive year for Powell, who solidified his A-list status in 2024. His romantic comedy Anyone But You, co-starring Sydney Sweeney, became a box office hit, while his thriller Hit Man earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Powell also starred in Twisters, the successful sequel to the 1990s classic, which grossed over $370 million globally.
This isn’t Paik’s first brush with Hollywood interest; his story Reawakening was adapted into an Amazon series with Lena Waithe producing, while another, Rainbowfish, found a home at Warner Bros.
With its combination of Powell’s rising star power and Paik’s track record of crafting sought-after stories, Homewreckers is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated projects of 2025.
