Tragedy in elevator
A 10-year-old boy named Kareem died after getting trapped between an elevator and the duct inside an apartment building in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Block 19, on Thursday.
As per details, two other children tried to get into the elevator to reach the 5th floor. As the elevator door malfunctioned and opened, one child managed to enter, while the other's leg got caught between the door and the elevator shaft. The elevator then ascended, dragging the boy to the 5th floor.
Upon hearing the cries, a resident tried to stop the elevator by pressing all the buttons, but it didn't stop. A Rescue 1122 team was called in which managed to open the elevator with the help of heavy machinery and retrieve the child. However, the boy had already passed away. The body was taken to hospital for a post-mortem. Residents of the apartment building expressed shock over the tragic incident. A video statement from one of the witnesses revealed the chaos during the whole tragic episode, as the elevator malfunctioned, leading to the boy's death.
Alleged suicide
A young married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her house in Mahmoodabad on Thursday.
The body of the woman, identified as 20-year-old Dina, wife of Noman Masih, was found with a rope tied around her neck in the family's house near KMC School, Azam Basti. The body was shifted to the JPMC where the grieving husband narrated his story to The Express Tribune.
"We got married about a year and a half ago and were blessed with daughter three months ago," Masih said, adding that he had been working in a private school for the past 10 years. "A few days ago, I took leave of absence to tend to my daughter who was not feeling well, but the school management fired me," he said. "However, I soon found another job at a private office."
Masih claimed that he did not have any financial issues. "Everything was fine in the house, there was no argument, no bitter talk, no quarrel, nothing," he recalled. "I left for work and Dina went to her room on the first floor, but when I returned at around 1.30am and knocked on the door, nobody responded."
