Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a medical emergency while delivering his sermon on Sunday.
“Oh Lord, my strength, my redeemer, let them go in peace,” the 67-year-old pastor stated shortly before dropping his microphone and falling silent.
Jakes appeared to shake uncontrollably while seated, prompting those nearby to rush to his aid.
Voices in the crowd were heard saying, “back up” and “give him some space,” as the church’s livestream was abruptly cut off. A voice off-camera urged attendees and online viewers to “begin to pray.”
Shortly after the incident, Jakes’ team posted an update on X (formerly Twitter) about his condition.
“During today’s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour long message. Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals,” the statement read.
The message continued, “The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community. Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers.”
After the event, fans online began speculating that Jakes had suffered a stroke, although his team has not confirmed the nature of the incident.
One user wrote, “Bishop TD Jakes had a medical emergency during today’s service. Not sure if it was a stroke.”
Another claimed, “That’s a stroke,” while a third shared, “Thoughts and prayers out to him and his family. 🙏🏾.”
