'Possession' remake from Parker Finn casts Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner in Paramount horror reimagining

Paramount has secured the rights to a new remake of the cult psychological horror film Possession, with Smile director Parker Finn set to write, direct and produce the project.
The studio has cast Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner in the lead roles, as the new adaptation reimagines the 1981 classic originally directed by Andrzej Żuławski.
The remake follows a competitive bidding process among major Hollywood studios, including A24, Netflix, Sony, and Warner Bros., with Paramount ultimately securing the rights to the project. The film is now in active development, with Finn attached to lead the creative vision.
The original Possession is widely regarded as a landmark psychological horror film, exploring themes of emotional breakdown, marital collapse, and identity crisis through a surreal and disturbing narrative. It starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill and has since developed a strong cult following.
The story centres on a woman whose behaviour becomes increasingly erratic after she requests a divorce, leading to suspicions of infidelity and the discovery of something far more unsettling. The new version is expected to reinterpret the core psychological themes for a modern audience.
A recent photo shared by Vanity Fair showed Finn alongside Qualley and Turner during a Paramount lot shoot, signalling early production development and confirming the casting announcement.
Finn, who gained recognition for his breakout horror hit Smile, continues to build his profile in the genre with this high-profile remake. Further plot details and production timelines have yet to be announced, but the project is already generating strong industry interest due to its source material and creative team.
