Memphis rapper GloRilla headlined U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign rally in Milwaukee on November 1, sparking a lively debate across social media.
The rapper, known for hits like "Hollon," "Yeah Glo!," and "TGIF," performed a six-minute set in glittery camo pants and a black top, joined by four backup dancers. Toward the end, she encouraged the crowd to vote, adding a political message to her performance.
Reactions to GloRilla’s appearance were divided. Many on social media enjoyed the energy, while others questioned if a political rally was the right venue for a concert.
One user’s comment captured the sentiment of critics: “When did politics turn into live concerts?”
The opinion gained traction as others chimed in, with some expressing that rappers didn’t need to perform at campaign events and some even dubbing the 2024 election cycle as “the worst in history.”
However, GloRilla wasn’t the only high-profile artist supporting Harris that night. She was joined by Flo Milli and MC Lyte, who also performed, and Cardi B, who delivered a nearly 10-minute speech.
Addressing the crowd, Cardi B explained her endorsement of Harris by criticizing Donald Trump, whom she called a “bully.”
She passionately warned attendees, saying, “He’s selling us bigotry, misogyny, division, chaos and confusion. And it's going to cost you your money, equal opportunity, affordable health care, and any rights you thought you had for your body. He’s going to take it from you! Listen to me. He’s going to take it.”
Cardi continued, saying she identified with Harris as an “underdog” and emphasized the unique challenges women face.
“People underestimate women, who have to work 10 times as hard to prove themselves,” she said, also underscoring her support for Harris’s policies for a better future.
Kamala Harris took the stage as well, delivering a 23-minute speech that covered reproductive rights, affordable healthcare, and the importance of bipartisanship.
Harris pledged to remain open to discussions with people holding opposing views, stating, “I pledge to listen to experts, to listen to people who disagree with me. Unlike Donald Trump, I don’t believe that people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put them in jail; I’ll give them a seat at the table.”
Meanwhile, just miles away, Donald Trump held a rally at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, where he criticized Harris and outlined his own political platform, including stricter immigration measures.
