Lea Thompson reacts to ex-fiancé Dennis Quaid’s support for Trump at rally: "I was engaged to him"

Lea Thompson, the actress best known for her role in Back to the Future, expressed regret over her past engagement to Dennis Quaid following his appearance at a Donald Trump campaign rally in Coachella, California. On October 13, 2024, Thompson shared a tweet that read, "I was engaged to him" with a thinking emoji, followed by the hashtag #VoteBlueToStopTheStupid, and another supporting the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts on crime reduction.

Thompson and Quaid were romantically involved after meeting on the set of Jaws 3-D in 1982, and were engaged from 1984 to 1987. Thompson later married director Howard Deutch, while Quaid’s most recent role was portraying Ronald Reagan in the critically panned Reagan biopic.

During the Coachella rally, Quaid urged the crowd to “pick a side,” criticizing the Biden-Harris administration and praising Donald Trump's previous policies, particularly the Abraham Accords. He also shared a personal story about his housekeeper, Josie, who had been in the U.S. illegally for over a decade before Quaid sponsored her citizenship after Trump’s election.
