Shailene Woodley is “not interested” in staying with people who disrespect her

Shailene Woodley has shared insights into how her past relationships have influenced her current outlook on love and personal boundaries. 

In a recent interview with Bustle, promoting her new Starz limited series Three Women, the actress discussed how experiencing a "broken heart" led her to re-evaluate her approach to relationships.

Woodley, 32, expressed her shift in perspective, stating, "I give all of myself. I used to be a person who, if you crossed me and disrespected that, would continue to give and give. And now you cross me, I respectfully go, ‘Thank you so much for that information. Have a beautiful life. I wish you well.’ Not interested.” She explained that her past experiences taught her to protect her well-being and to avoid investing emotionally in unworthy relationships.

The actress did not specify the individuals involved but noted that her reflections come after a period of personal challenges, including her breakup with ex-fiancé Aaron Rodgers in early 2022. Woodley, who stars alongside DeWanda Wise and Betty Gilpin in Three Women, described the time spent filming as a period of intense personal difficulty.

"I’m very open as a human. I love easy and I care easy, but I do not love lightly, and I do not care lightly," Woodley said, highlighting her ongoing journey to balance openness with self-protection.

In a previous interview, Woodley described filming the series during a particularly tough time in her life, calling it one of the "darkest" periods she had faced. The series, adapted from Lisa Taddeo's novel, premieres on Starz on September 13.
