The controversy began on August 1st during the Paris Olympics when Italy’s Angela Carini quit just 46 seconds into her second-round welterweight clash against Algeria’s Imane Khelif. In 2023, Khelif was disqualified from the World Championships by the International Boxing Association (IBA) due to elevated testosterone levels. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) later stripped the IBA of its status as the sport’s governing body, ensuring all boxers in Paris complied with eligibility regulations.

Upon ending her bout, Carini was heard saying, "It’s not right." She later told the media, "I had to preserve my life." Some claimed Khelif shouldn't have been allowed to fight, with false assertions that the boxer was transgender.

Amidst the backlash, Logan Paul added fuel to the fire by tweeting, "This is the purest form of evil unfolding right before your eyes. A man was allowed to beat up a woman on a global stage, crushing her life’s dream while fighting for her deceased father. This delusion must end."

Scottish star Isla Dawn responded to the online hate, urging people to keep their “transphobic opinions to yourself.” Although it initially seemed she was addressing Paul, she later clarified her comments were not aimed at anyone specific. Despite this, many have directly called out Paul, labeling his remarks as transphobic and ignorant.
