Obama joins Biden and Hollywood Stars for record-breaking $28M fundraiser in LA

Star-studded event sees Biden, Obama, and Hollywood elite rally support while taking aim at Trump.

The Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles hosted a historic fundraising event for President Joe Biden's reelection campaign on Saturday night, amassing a record-setting $28 million.

The evening was filled with Hollywood glamour as A-list stars like George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Jimmy Kimmel joined forces with Biden and former President Barack Obama to rally support.

The event, moderated by Kimmel, included a 40-minute discussion with Biden and Obama that touched on critical issues such as abortion, the Supreme Court, and former President Donald Trump.

Biden didn't hold back, addressing Trump's controversial track record, including his criminal convictions and threats of retribution.

"I could have done nothing and done better than him," Biden remarked, highlighting his own legislative victories and efforts to boost the economy.

Obama took aim at Trump's felony convictions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining core values like honesty and paying taxes.

"We believed in basic honesty. We believed in paying your taxes. We believed in making sure that we didn’t make fun of [prisoners of war]," Obama said, praising Biden for upholding these values during his tenure.

Kimmel, known for his comedic jabs at Trump, continued his critique with a highlight reel of Trump's falsehoods.

He praised Biden’s three years in office and thanked the attendees for their support in the fight for equal rights, climate change, universal healthcare, and democracy.

The event also featured performances and appearances by other celebrities, including Barbra Streisand, who introduced First Lady Jill Biden, Jason Bateman, Kathryn Hahn, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Jack Black.

Streisand lauded Jill Biden for her dedication to teaching and her support for military families and cancer research.

The evening wasn't without controversy, as pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the venue. Despite their presence, the event proceeded without major disruptions.
