Actor Nicolas Cage will star in a live-action series based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir, according to an announcement made by MGM+ and Prime Video. This will be the first time the character has been portrayed in a live-action project.

The series, titled "Noir," will be set in 1930s New York and follow an aging private investigator who is also the city's only superhero. Cage previously voiced the character in the animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."

"Noir" is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot will serve as showrunners and executive producers, and Harry Bradbeer will executive produce and direct the first two episodes. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, who were also behind the animated Spider-Verse film, will also executive produce.

"Expanding the Marvel universe with 'Noir' is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers," said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios [Variety]. "The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way."

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series!" said Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. "No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character, "along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn't ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters."

This is the second Sony-Marvel project to be greenlit at Amazon. The company is also moving forward with the series "Silk: Spider Society" from showrunner Angela Kang.
