The Punjab government has decided to make arrangement for specialisation of doctors at the district headquarters (DHQ) hospitals in underdeveloped areas to extend specialised treatment facilities to the people at local level by providing them easy access to qualified doctors.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) was signed by Caretaker Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Dr Jamal Nasir on Monday for starting specialisation of doctors in the Mandi Bahauddin DHQ Hospital. The caretaker minister also announced a grant of Rs20 million for upgrading the hospital for the purpose. He said the caretaker government was working to resolve the shortage of doctors and paramedical staff besides other issues in the district hospitals. He also said there would be no compromise on attendance of doctors in government hospitals.
Round the clock monitoring of the DHQ hospitals and basic health units is being carried out for ensuring provision of quality medical facilities to the people free of charge.
Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth said on the occasion that the district administration and the health department were working day and night to provide the best medical facilities to the people and all available resources were being utilised in this regard.
