LAHORE:

The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has been instructed to take stern legal action against quacks. However, the commission was asked to avoid harassing qualified doctors and laboratories which follow the approved SOPs, so as not to obstruct the provision of quality healthcare to citizens.

Punjab Caretaker Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Dr Jamal Nasir announced the action while meeting with a visiting delegation from the Pakistan Medical Association Punjab on Saturday. Dr Nasir said that the recommendations put forward by PMA Punjab will be incorporated in policy making for improvement of the healthcare management system in Pakistan. He said that all stakeholders must cooperate to improve the healthcare system and this meeting was a part of consultation to that end.

The minister warned that overuse of antibiotics weakened their effects on the pathogens and indiscriminate use of these drugs led to many deaths. This is why their use needs to be controlled.
