IHC orders timely Eid announcement

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed that the announcement of the Eidul Fitr moon be made promptly, in accordance with the law and based on credible testimonies.

Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar issued a written order containing these directions in response to a petition seeking a timely declaration of the Eid moon sighting.

The court further instructed that, following the announcement, appropriate and necessary measures be ensured to maintain law and order in markets and safeguard the public.

Without delving into the merits of the case, the court observed that the matter of moon sighting falls within the jurisdiction of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is responsible for making an immediate announcement in accordance with the law upon receiving verified testimonies.
