KARACHI:

The business community has rejected the orders of Karachi commissioner to close bazaars, shopping malls and wedding halls early at night in line with the energy saving plan of the federal government.

President of Karachi Electronics Dealers Association Muhammad Rizwan has said that the government's decision to close commercial centers at 8.30pm is against the interests of the traders and orders in this regard are unacceptable.

He said that during discussions held in the office of the commissioner, it was promised that the energy saving plan would be prepared keeping in view the interests of the business community so that traders do not suffer any more losses.

The association said that the businessmen of Karachi will not cooperate with the government on the decision to close the commercial centres and shops at 8.30pm.

Meanwhile, representatives of marriage halls association and restaurant owners' association of Karachi have also rejected the decision and maintained that their operative hours will remain unchanged.

On the other hand, a spokesperson of the Karachi commissioner clarified that no notification has been issued regarding the closure or working hours of marriage halls, restaurants and commercial centres.
