KARACHI:

Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the parties in the petition seeking an increase in the pension of retired employees of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC). A two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro heard the petition.

Usman Farooq Advocate, the lawyer of the petitioner Qaiser Jameel, stated that under the memorandum of 2019 and 2020, the pension was supposed to be increased by 10 to 15 per cent. He argued that the KMC pensioners were facing financial hardships because of the inaction.

The lawyer cited runaway inflation as a challenge for pensioners while requesting the court to issue the order in their favour. The court adjourned the session while seeking responses of the parties at the next hearing.
