Karachi to shiver in chilly Siberian winds from Sunday

Mercury could drop to as low as 6°C in metropolis from January 22, says met office

A new cold wave is expected to grip Sindh from Sunday which may cause the temperature to drop as low as 6°C in Karachi due to chilly Siberian winds, Express News reported.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), cold winds persisted in the city on Saturday and the minimum temperature was recorded at 10°C.

Maximum wind speed was recorded at 18 km/h whereas the visibility was dropped to 3.5 kilometres due to thick fog in the morning. The maximum temperature in the metropolis was recorded at 24.4°C.

PMD's early warning centre said that the new cold wave was expected to hit Sindh province from Sunday.

It said that the minimum temperature in Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Sajawal and Thatta districts was expected to remain between 6°C to 8 °C. The minimum temperature in Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Qambar Shahdatkot, Kashmor, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Tharparkar and Umarkot will be between 2°C to 4 °C.

It further said that the minimum temperature in Naushero Feroz, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Tando Allahyar and Tando Mohammad Khan would remain between 3°C to 5°C.

The PMD further said that a significant increase in the severity of cold is expected in Karachi from January 25, urging the public to take precautionary measures.
