Another man shot dead as police fail to control street crimes

32-year-old killed while resisting a robbery attempt in Orangi Town

KARACHI:

The city police have failed to stem the rising tide of violent street crimes as another young man was shot dead by merciless muggers when he tried to resist a robbery attempt in Orangi Town, on Monday.

The victim, a father of three, used to supply confectionery items to shops on his motorcycle. The suspected killers managed to flee unchallenged despite the fact a police mobile van was present at a stone's throw from the crime scene, according to eyewitnesses

Police said 32-year-old Ismail Haji Muhammad was delivering supplies at a shop in Iqbal Market, Rais Amrohi Colony, when a suspected robber riding a motorcycle pulled over beside him. One of his two accomplices riding pillion got down, walked up to Muhammad, and asked him at gunpoint to hand over his cash and cell-phone.

When Ismail offered resistance, he shot him at point blank range, killing him on the spot. A rescue ambulance shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Eyewitnesses and family of the victim said that the incident took place near Admore Petrol Pump, and a police mobile van was patrolling on the other side of the road. The patrol did not do anything even after hearing the gunshots.
