WB team asks Sindh govt to submit plans for financing

WB officials gave a detailed briefing regarding the projects to be launched under the WB in Karachi

KARACHI:

A World Bank (WB) delegation on Wednesday asked Sindh government to submit a plan for financing before mid of the October.

Assuring the Sindh government of its full support for the rehabilitation of the flood victims, the 10-member delegation of WB, said a meeting WB Board is scheduled next month which will approve $1 billion for Pakistan's flood affected areas. WB South Asia Regional Director for Sustainable Development John Roome led the delegation which met with Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput.

Rajput informed the delegation about the damages caused by floods in Sindh province.

Rajput further informed the delegation that the provincial government is working to devise a plan to provide wheat seeds to the farmers and construction of low-cost houses in flood affected areas.

Separately, in a meeting with the Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday, the WB officials gave a detailed briefing regarding the projects to be launched under the WB in Karachi and other cities of Sindh. They said that consultations are ongoing with various high officials of the provincial government as well as with the KMC due its central position so that the work done is complete and sustainable in all respects.
