LAHORE:

The Punjab government has made Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sohail Chaudhry an officer on special duty (OSD) within a day after transferring him to the Counterterrorism Department (CTD).

The move appears to the first step after an overhaul of the departmental hierarchy towards sidelining the police officers who the ruling alliance deems had used force against its supporters during its three-months period as opposition.

Hours earlier, Chaudhry had been told through a notification to report to the Punjab CTD after being transferred from the post of the Lahore DIG operations.

DIG Afzal Ahmad Kausar had been appointed to the post vacated by him.

A fresh order issued by the Punjab Services and General Administration Department read, "In partial modification of this department's notification of even number dated 30-07-2022, Capt (retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry (PSP/BS-20) is hereby transferred and directed to report to Services and General Administration Department". Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Faisal Shahkar transferred 10 more senior police officers. SSP Ali Nasir Rizvi has been appointed as AlG Operations. Two days back, he was removed from the post of the Faisalabad city police officer (CPO).

SSP Mansoor Aman has been appointed as Lahore Region Special Branch SSP.

Muzaffargarh DPO Tariq Walait has been transferred and asked to report to the Central Police Office (CPO), while Multan City SP Ahmad Nawaz Shah has been posted in his place.
