Provincial sewerage fleet launched

CM vows drainage arrangements before monsoon season

LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Punjab Sewerage Fleet Phase-I in Lahore.

According to a statement, WASA services have been established across 41 districts to improve drainage and sanitation systems at the grassroots level.

During a ceremony, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inspected sewer jetting and suction machines along with other operation vehicles, handing over their keys to Housing Minister Bilal Yasin. She appreciated the drivers and operational staff for their dedication and urged them to continue serving the public with commitment, while also commending the minister, Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal, and their team for making Punjab WASA functional.

According to a briefing, 552 vehicles and machines are being provided in 15 districts in the initial phase - Jhelum, Gujrat, Okara, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Jhang, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

The fleet includes modern machinery such as sewer suction units, jetting and desilting machines, water bowsers, dewatering pumps, dumpers, truck cranes and loader rickshaws.

In the next phase, 937 additional sewerage machines and vehicles will be provided to 22 districts.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that, for the first time, sewerage services and operations were being initiated at the district level for ensuring timely response during heavy rains and floods.
