HARIPUR:

Local government representatives belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took to the streets against the unannounced
and prolonged load-shedding.

They converged outside the Haripur deputy commissioners’ office and chanted slogans against Water and Power Development Authority
(WAPDA) authorities.

The protesters also chanted slogans against the behaviour of the assistant commissioner and gave a two-day deadline to the local administration and the WAPDA executive engineer to end load-shedding, otherwise, they would bring people from their respective areas to
the streets.

PTI local government members’ protest rally started from Main Bazaar and culminated at Siddique Akbar Chowk.

They said that the youth especially the students were facing immense problems owing to the incessant power cuts.

They said that owing to the power cuts, they could not run tube wells and water motors.

They said that due to the extreme heat, elderly people had to be taken to hospitals.

They warned that if the unannounced power cuts and load-shedding did not end, they will take to the streets and stage strong protests.

PTI local representatives including Azeem Khan, Malik Liaquat Hayat, Waheed Khan, Malik Idrees, Malik Faisal, Malik Khan Afsar, Khan
Afsar Awan, Asad Tareen, Ejaz Ahmed and Malik Ibtisam while addressing the protesters said that the deputy commissioner had been informed about the situation, but he did not take any notice.

They said that they were forced to stage the protest outside the deputy commissioners’ office.

They said that if the permit issued in the name of electricity was not revoked in the next two days, they will stage another protest along with the people and block roads.
