ANF foils drug smuggling bid at Islamabad airport

Official says 84 narcotics-filled capsules recovered from passenger’s stomach

A drug-smuggling bid was foiled at the Islamabad International Airport on Wednesday.

As many as 84 capsules full of drugs were recovered from the stomach of a passenger travelling to Bahrain from the Islamabad International Airport.

In total, more than half a kilogram of narcotics was swallowed by the passenger in the shape of capsules. The Anti-Narcotics Force registered a case against the passenger and launched an investigation.

An ANF spokesperson said that Kashif Ahmed, a passenger from Bonair, was travelling to Bahrain from Islamabad via PIA flight PK-187 when the ANF personnel took the passenger into custody on suspicion and interrogated him.

During the investigation, the passenger disclosed that he had drug-filled capsules in his stomach.

The passenger was shifted to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi where the capsules were recovered by doctors. Of the 84 capsules recovered, 78 contained heroin and six contained ice powder (methamphetamine), the ANF spokesperson said.

The drugs contained in 84 capsules weighed 644 grams of heroin and 35 grams of ice powder. The spokesperson said that the value of recovered drugs in the global market is worth millions of rupees.

15 suspects held

Police arrest 15 outlaws across the city, and recover a cache of narcotics and weapons from their possession on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said that following orders of Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad Muhammad Ahsan Younas a massive crackdown against criminal elements took place to secure the life and property of the citizens.

The Sabzi Mandi police team arrested four accused Rana Waqas, Abdul Wali, Umair and Rizwan involved in drug peddling and possessing illegal weapons. Police recovered 2430 grams of hashish, one 30 bore pistol and one dagger.

Golra Police team arrested two drug peddlers including a lady named Raqeeb Nawaz and Akhtar Un Nisa and recovered 2055 grams of hashish. Bhara Kahu police arrested accused Hasnain and recovered one 30 bore pistol.

Kohsar police arrested accused Muhammad Shair and recovered one 30 bore pistol. Tarnol police recovered one 30 bore pistol from accused Muhammad Hanif, while Sihala police arrested two accused named Muhammad Sheraz and Mohsin Ali and recovered one 30 bore pistol and one iron punch.

Koral police arrested accused drug peddler Ameer Subhani and recovered 120 grams of hashish. Cases against all the accused have been registered and further investigations are underway. IGP Younas appreciated the performance of the police and directed all zonal SPs to intensify the security in their relevant areas and arrest the criminals involved in looting innocent people.
