The government is taking steps to enhance the production of milk and meat to make dairy, livestock and poultry sectors a success story, said Punjab Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dreshak.
Speaking to participants of ‘Public-Private Dialogue on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry Sectors’ on Wednesday, the minister said that the government was committed to boosting production in those areas.
Dreshak highlighted that the province wanted to promote livestock and dairy development business on commercial lines.
He pointed out that the livestock breed improvement project was vital for improving the genetic characteristics of cattle and it could also help in enhancing production of halal products and their export.
Highlighting the potential for investment in the livestock and dairy sectors, especially in value-added products, the minister said that “this sector is playing a leading role in economic growth, food security and poverty alleviation in the country”.
Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) Chairman Fazeel Asif Jah said that the provincial government was determined to put the livestock sector on modern lines and enhance the production of meat, milk and poultry.
Dialogue participants were of the view that the livestock sector could be transformed into a billion-dollar industry through sustained government support and imparting latest practical knowledge and skills to the stakeholders.
The livestock and dairy development minister assured the participants that their feedback would be incorporated while devising strategies for the province.
