KARACHI:

The Court of the Central additional district and Sessions Judge has directed the police to record the statement of a petitioner on the request to register a case over the firing of a policeman involved in a dispute during an anti-polio drive in New Karachi.

The petitioner's counsel argued that the police had filed a case against unidentified suspects, whereas the suspects were clearly identifiable. The court directed the police to record the statement of the petitioner.

The court sought a report from the police on the next hearing. The court adjourned the hearing of the petition till January 12. The petitioner argued that the policeman shot his son in the leg. He added the son's leg had to be amputated due to the bullet wound. "The policeman ruined my son's future."

On December 15, a police team arrived in New Karachi Industrial Area for vaccination.

The victim told the polio team that the child had been vaccinated against polio two days ago. The doctor forbade the child to take any medicine as he was not feeling well.

The victim resisted when the polio team tried to forcefully enter the house. Constable Alam allegedly opened fire on the orders of ADC Imran Rajput.
