LAKKI MARWAT:

Yet another policeman has been shot dead in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Friday.

Police told The Express Tribune that Constable Abdur Rehman was a resident of Lakki Marwat district but he was deployed at Razmak, North Waziristan tribal district and he was on leave currently.

He was posted in Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in North Waziristan and was in his home district on leave.

“On Friday he went to the market to buy groceries where he was attacked,” said police.

“He was a resident of Shamdo village in Lakki Marwat and at Bagh Chowk when unknown bike riders opened fire at him, killing him on the spot,” said an official, adding that the attackers managed to escape after committing the crime.

The constable was rushed to the hospital where doctors confirmed his death.

“This is terrorism and a targeted attack without any doubt as he had no personal feud,” he said.

The last rites of the slain constable were offered at Lakki Police Lines with full guard of honour Friday and the coffin was sent to the ancestral graveyard for burial.

Police officers attended the last rites.

It is to be noted here that last Saturday a police muharar ASI Asghar Khan was gunned down near New Sabzi Mandi in Bannu district as attacks at police have intensified suddenly in recent months in Lakki Marwat, Bannu, DI Khan, Peshawar, Karak, Charsadda, North Waziristan, Nowshera, Mardan and Swabi.

Police sees last year’s fall of Kabul to Taliban as the main trigger behind the unrest in K-P as Taliban freed all the militants imprisoned in the Afghan jails.

“The dramatic and swift takeover of the entire Afghanistan by Taliban forces has provided a much needed morale boost to the Pakistani militants too. They now face no restrictions of movement in the war-torn country like in the past and they are now using all their energies in staging these attacks,” said an official.
