In a significant and historic development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prisons Department has, for the first time, appointed a transgender person to a government post, marking a major step toward inclusion of marginalized communities in public service.
According to official sources, transgender individual Sobia Khan, also known as Bebo, has been recruited as a Warder in Basic Pay Scale-7 under the provincial transgender quota. The appointment is being widely viewed as a progressive initiative that reflects a shift toward greater social acceptance and institutional inclusion.
Authorities confirmed that Sobia Khan is likely to be posted either at the Central Prison Peshawar or at the Prisons Headquarters, where she will perform duties alongside other staff members in accordance with departmental responsibilities.
The recruitment has been made under a special quota system aimed at providing dignified employment opportunities to marginalized and often overlooked segments of society.
