RAWALPINDI:

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid announced on Wednesday that his residence Lal Haveli will be turned into a university.

Speaking at a function at the newly-built multi-purpose hall of Government Associate College for Girls Murree Road, he said that he had completed several institutions over the years and his last aim was to build an IT university at the Punjab House.

“Making a university is a difficult task as one has to make rounds to dozens of departments and take approval from the cabinet,” Rashid said, vowing that he would get it done.

He also offered to pay the fee of female position holders and poorer students. He said that now, no girl would have to leave education for this reason, and believed girls frequently outshine boys in academia.

He said that Leh Expressway and Ring Road projects had also been approved and his next focus would be the health sector, where he promised to make dialysis and mother and child hospitals.

At the function, the college principal presented a list of problems faced by the educational institution which the minister assured will be resolved soon.

He also asked his nephew and MNA to shift his political office from Lal Haveli to make way for the proposed university.
