World Teachers’ Day is marked on October 5 (Tuesday) across the globe, including Pakistan, to celebrate the role of teachers in providing quality education at all levels. Teachers in the garrison city would attend the schools with black armbands around their hands and they would not take part regarding the day. Talking to The Express Tribune, the leaders of teachers’ organisations, including Muhammad Shafiq Bhalwalia, Basharat Iqbal Raja, and Malik Amjad said that teachers across the country were facing economic difficulties.
The government should show compassion on the day and issue notification for regularisation of all contractual teachers, they added. The government should complete recruitments on all vacant seats and announce pay protection, they said, adding that the government should also announce the promotion of teachers of all categories under the 50 percent quota and abolish rationalisation.
