KARACHI:

A mass vaccination programme and implementation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) prescribed by the federal and provincial governments and health regulatory bodies are essential to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Pakistan, said University of Karachi Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi on Thursday.

Speaking at the inauguration of a vaccination centre for students of varsity’s Business School, Dr Iraqi said nearly 95 per cent of KU’s teachers and administrative staff have been inoculated. The varsity is setting up vaccination centres at the department level to facilitate students, he said, adding that there is another one at the Centre for Bioequivalence Studies and Clinical Research (CBSCR). “If we want to resume our post-pandemic routines, we must get vaccinated.”

Sindh Expanded Programme on Immunisation Karachi Director Dr Akram Sultan said that two additional teams have been formed to assist the one currently working to facilitate students at the city’s largest public university. If required, the Sindh health department will send mobile vaccination teams on the premises as well, said Dr Sultan. He suggested that the varsity write to the National Command and Operation Centre regarding foreign students enrolled at KU so they may be vaccinated as well.
