ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has set a target to complete two major projects worth billions of rupees to do away with traffic issues in the federal capital once for all.

According to CDA officials, work on the construction of an underpass connecting 7th Avenue to Srinagar Highway and a road project connecting Ninth Avenue to Rawalpindi Stadium will be started next month. The 7th Avenue Interchange worth Rs1.5 billion will be constructed at the junction of 7th Avenue and Srinagar Highway near Aabpara.

According to the officials, with the completion of these projects, both roads will become signal-free. Similarly, major sectors of Islamabad will also be converted into a signal-free zone in the next two years, they said.

The CDA officials said that uplift projects regarding street lights, public parks, cleaning of storm drains, upgrading of F-9 Park, clean and green projects and completion of underpasses are underway and they will be completed soon.

CDA Chairman Amir Ali Ahmed said that Islamabad will be made a model city this year. “Projects like the construction of underpasses will make major highways signal-free,” he said adding that a comprehensive strategy has been formulated to make Islamabad signal-free in two years.

Ahmed said that thousands of citizens were also taking an interest in the development projects as they share posts on social media about them." Such public confidence is an award for the CDA," he said.

He said that the prime minister himself visits various highways and reviews ongoing development progress to ensure that the best work was being done. The CDA chairman also said that a huge sum has been allocated for development projects in the current financial budget.
