‘Central Asia resources need to be explored’

Energy minister expresses satisfaction over progress on TAPI gas pipeline

ISLAMABAD:

Natural resources including natural gas need to be explored in Turkmenistan for mutual benefit of both countries, said Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar.

Speaking to Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan Atadjan Movlamov on Tuesday, he expressed satisfaction over the progress on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.

He reiterated the strong desire of Pakistan to further cement existing bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries. Azhar underscored the need to work out all details of gas transportation and supply agreements for the benefit of all the countries involved in the TAPI pipeline project.

He pinned strong hopes on early completion and materialisation of the project.

On the occasion, the Turkmenistan ambassador apprised the minister of salient features of the project and the progress made by the Central Asian state.

Movlamov said that all matters pertaining to the project including the financing and security of the pipeline were being reviewed to ensure its smooth and timely completion. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Power and Petroleum Tabish Gauhar was also present in the meeting.
