KARACHI:

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) recovered on Monday a baby girl who was kidnapped from Char Minar Chowrangi a month ago.

The police also arrested the alleged kidnapper during an operation carried out in Korangi based on a tip-off on Monday. According to AVCC officials, baby Huma’s father, Muhammad Amjad, had lodged an FIR against her kidnapping on November 21, at New Town Police Station. He had claimed in his statement that his wife and sister were returning from Alamgir Welfare Trust located in Bahadurabad when a woman approached them and took Huma from their arms and fled. The AVCC officials stated that the arrested woman, Maria, told the police during the initial interrogation that she had taken Huma because she is childless despite being married for six years.

The infant was handed over to her parents and further interrogation of Maria is underway. Separately, a 14-year-old girl went missing from a house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Saturday and her father lodged an FIR against her alleged kidnapping on Monday. The complainant, Irfan Ahmed Siddiqui, told the police in his statement that when his family woke up on Saturday his daughter, Mariam Irfan, was missing. Police started an investigation but could not make headway into the matter.
