FAISALABAD:

In a bid to seize property and money, an elderly man was allegedly murdered by his daughter-in-law and grandson in Faisalabad on Tuesday.

As per details available with The Express Tribune, 85-year-old Basheer Ahmed, son of Imamuddin, lived with his son Nadeem Abbas in Mohalla Iqbal Tow in Ghulam Muhammadabad. The grandson of the deceased, identified as Waseem Abbas, wanted to seize his grandfather’s property and bank balance.

Police said Waseem along with his mother Aasia bibi, broke into a fight over property issue with the elderly man identified as Basheer Ahmed. Waseem hit a brick on the head of the victim. Basheer was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Police conducted the autopsy of the victim after taking the body into custody and later handed over the body to the family.

Waseem was arrested and booked in the case under Section 302/34 on the statement of the complainant Abdul Hameed, the son of the deceased.

Incidents of murder and attempt-to-murder over property disputes continue unabated in the province. On September 29, a man tried to kill and set his 13-year-old niece on fire over a land dispute in Arifwala. The victim was shifted to hospital with serious injuries.

The 13-year-old girl’s uncle was furious over a land and relationship issue in the suburb village 30EB near Arifwala.

The victim’s father told the police that his daughter was alone in the house when his brother and his wife tried to set his daughter on fire.

As a result, the victim’s face was severely burned. The girl was admitted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition.

Despite the police receiving a petition from the victim’s family against the accused, no case has been registered so far.

Reportedly, the police support a political party and refused to provide justice to the victim.

On November 9 last year, at least five members of a family were killed when they were ambushed by a rival party over a minor property dispute in Batapur, Lahore.

The Amjad group and Rafaqat group had a property dispute in Diyal Pind. Both parties had earlier clashed on a smaller scale back in June of 2019.

Hundreds of such incidents occur every day but the police administration remains a silent spectator.
