KARACHI:

The repair work of roads that were damaged during the recent record-breaking rains in Karachi will be completed on a priority basis, claimed Karachi Commissioner Sohail Rajput.

Chairing a meeting on Saturday, he directed the relevant departments to complete the repair work immediately, pointing out that the potholes that had appeared on the roads were causing traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, Traffic DIG Javed Ali Mahar briefed the participants of the meeting that roads damaged at 26 spots required maintenance.

Moreover, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board chief engineer Shaikh Saeed Ahmed claimed that 194 sewerage lines, which had sunk during the monsoon rains, had been repaired and the relevant roads reopened for traffic.

It was decided in the meeting that deputy commissioners (DCs) and district administrators would monitor the repair work on the thoroughfares, ensuring that there was no delay.

Rajput asked the DCs to play their role as the heads of district administrations as well as the administrators of the district municipal corporations (DMCs).

It was further decided during the session that the Sindh Works and Services Department, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), DMCs and Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited would be responsible for the repair work, while the relevant DCs would submit daily progress reports to the commissioner.

The meeting was attended by Sindh works and services secretary Imran Atta Soomro, municipal commissioner Dr Saifur Rahman, additional commissioner Asad Ali Khan, deputy commissioners and others.
