LAHORE:

A high-level meeting of Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) and Traffic Police decided to include 18 more new roads in the ‘One district one road’ project for better traffic management.

PHP and traffic police had earlier planned at least 14 roads under the project. The decision to include the new roads was taken after better results. At least 40 per cent of the traffic crashes had been reduced at these 14 roads, PHP officials claimed. The participants also decided to extend it throughout Punjab in phases.

The meeting was held at Central Police Office (CPO) Lahore and chaired by Punjab Highway Patrol Additional IG Zafar Iqbal Awan and Traffic Additional IG Sahibzada Shehzad Sultan. Moreover, it had also been asserted that mobile education units of PHP will conduct traffic law awareness campaigns at educational institutions and public places in which the public will be made aware of traffic rules and brochures will be distributed.

The PHP additional IG said all regional officers should ensure good manners while dealing with general public during traffic management. In the session, PHP DIG Tariq Abbas Qureshi along with officers of PHP headquarters, Traffic headquarters and regional SPs were present.
