A local court granted on Monday pre-arrest bail to K-Electric (KE) CEO Moonis Alvi in a case pertaining to the death of a young man by electrocution in Defence Housing Authority.

The South district and sessions judge was hearing the case at Karachi City Court, where Alvi had submitted his pre-arrest bail plea.

The court accepted the plea against a surety of Rs200,000 and restricted the police from arresting Alvi until August 25. It also directed Alvi to cooperate with the police in the case investigation.

Alvi had earlier acquired protective bail from the Sindh High Court, which directed him to reach out to the trial court within a week.

The police had registered cases against four KE officials, including Alvi, over the death of 19-year-old Faizan Ahmed near a KE substation due to electrocution on August 11.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed had also expressed displeasure over prolonged power cuts and ordered officials to put Alvi's name on the Exit Control List on the same day, further ordering the registration of murder cases against KE officials for electrocution deaths in the city.

Quadruple murder

Meanwhile, the judicial magistrate at a local court in Malir handed over the accused to the police for a three-day physical remand in a case pertaining to the murder of his wife and three children.

The police presented the accused, Abid Ali Soomro, before the court, following which the magistrate remanded him to police custody.

The police had arrested Soomro and filed a case against him on Sunday for the alleged murder of his wife, Asma, and three children, namely Javeria, 8, Alisha, 5, and Baqir, 3.
