Farhan Akhtar recently took to Instagram to celebrate 19 years of his hit film Dil Chahta Hai, sharing snippets of his favourite dialogues from the classic.
Marking his debut as a director, the film featured actors Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna as three best friends going through life together. “19 years later, Akash, Sid aur Sameer dost the, hain, aur hamesha rahenge (were, are and will remain friends.) Here’s to the moments that stayed with us, just like their friendship,” he wrote.
Akhtar even went on Twitter to thank fans for the love they’ve given to the film. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for the love you continue to show Dil Chahta Hai. To my amazing cast and crew, wherever you are, see you at Chapora Fort!” The post featured memorable dialogues from the film, recreated as digital illustrations.
Akhtar’s Instagram video, a montage of the film’s highlights, was warmly received by fans and industry peers, with many leaving nostalgic comments. Shabana Azmi was all praises too, writing, “Such a path-breaking film. Congratulations,” while Ishaan Khatter excitedly said, “Best. Best. Best!”
The coming-of-age drama set a precedent at the time when it was released in 2001, instantly becoming a favourite, especially among the younger crowds. Over the years, it has achieved cult status.
Other than the three leads, Dil Chahta Hai also starred Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia in pivotal roles.
