Crackdown against wheat hoarders

SARGODHA: The district administration led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh is conducting a crackdown against wheat hoarders and its illegal transporters across the district.

In five days, as many as 52,800 sacks of 50kg wheat were seized and delivered to the procurement centers. According to the details, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Kot Momin seized 30,880 sacks of wheat being transported illegally, AC Sargodha 16,640 wheat sacks, AC Sillanwali 3,000 wheat sacks, AC Sahiwal 1,500 wheat sacks, AC Shahpur 380 wheat sacks and AC Bhalwal 400 wheat sacks during the crackdown.

Slow wheat procurement worries Centre

The confiscated wheat sacks were sent to the relevant procurement centers. DC Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh said that all administrative machinery has been mobilized to curb illegal movement of wheat and 18 check posts have been set up in the district for the purpose.

He said only the government is allowed to buy wheat directly from the farmers, whereas flour mills can only keep a stock of three days.
