Supreme Court approves interim bails

Three men were accused of corruption worth millions of rupees while being deputed as town officers

KARACHI: The Supreme Court accepted on Monday the interim bails of three people accused in a case about corruption worth millions of rupees and misuse of their authority.

A three-member bench, headed by Justice Maqbool Baqar and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Munib Akhter, was hearing the bail plea at the Supreme Court's Karachi Registry.

The court ordered the accused Khalilullah Memon, Ilahi Bakhsh and Imtiaz Lond to submit Rs1 million each as surety for their bails.

According to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the accused were allegedly involved in corruption involving millions of rupees as town officers in Khairpur.

Separately, the same bench accepted the interim bail of an accused in a case about the displacing of chemicals used to manufacture medicines.

The apex court ordered the accused, Muhammad Noman, to submit a surety bond of Rs500,000 for his bail. Noman was accused of displacing millions of rupees of chemicals used to manufacture medicines. The Sindh High Court had rejected his bail plea earlier. According to the defence lawyer, the evidence against Noman was weak.
