COVID-19: Celebrities rally support for healthcare workers fighting coronavirus

From donation calls to waving white flags, here are some celebs using their platform for the greater good

With the call to wave white flags in support of healthcare workers on the front lines in this war with coronavirus, our celebrities also rose to the occasion to offer their support.

Many pledged to not just extend support via social media, but also made donations and sent out calls for money to put together for ration packets for those affected severely by the crisis.

Singing sensation Atif Aslam took it upon himself to film a video for YouTube, with important messages for the general public. He also took to Instagram to post the video with a lengthy caption thanking people whose work falls under 'essential' work and have to work despite the risks involved.

"Thank you to the paramedics, doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers who are tirelessly and fearlessly working at the front line of this crisis, risking their own health every second," he wrote.

He also thanked cleaners, to those producing, delivering, and selling food, to the government and army, and also those who are staying home.

Sports star Wasim Akram also took to Instagram to share a photo of his family, proudly holding a white flag in his hand in honour of doctors, nurses and paramedics.

"Big salute to all the heroic Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics and medical at the front line fighting for us. #HumainTumSePyarHai," he wrote.

Singer Ali Zafar posted a call for donations on his Instagram. You can donate Rs. 3,000 for a ration hamper for someone in need.

"In these testing times, it is most important that we use all our resources to help those who have none. Nobody should go hungry in the lockdown," wrote Ali.

Meray Paas Tum Ho co-stars Humayun Saeed and Adnan Siddiqui who are currently under quarantine together after returning from the US also presented their support.

"We salute all our doctors, nurses, paramedics and health officials who are at the forefront of the battle against coronavirus," Humayun wrote, urging people to come out on their terrace to wave a white flag in their honour.

The caption was accompanied with a video where the two call healthcare workers a messiah for the nation in these trying times.

Actor Resham heeded their call and posted a video of herself on her terrace with a white flag in her hand, singing 'Humain tum se pyar hai' (We love you).


In such a time, it is imperative for celebs to use their platforms to propagate important messages and it is heartening to see our celebs doing the needful.
