Express July 21, 2011

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has been allotted opposition benches in the Sindh Assembly, Express 24/7 reported on Thursday.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, MQM leader Raza Haroon said the party was considering four names for leader of the Opposition.

Sources have revealed that the names of MQM leaders Raza Haroon, Faisal Sabzwari and Syed Sardar Ahmed are being considered for the post.

The MQM had parted ways with the government, on both the federal and provincial level, after the postponement of elections for Azad Jammu & Kashmir LA-30 and LA-36 seats.

MQM’s provincial governor, provincial and federal ministers had tendered their resignations but the PPP persuaded its coalition partner to bring the governor back to his post.

Governor Sindh, Inshratul Ebad recently returned to Pakistan after MQM chief Altaf Hussain asked him to take back his resignation and resume his duties.

The rule for the majority party in an underdeveloped county is: it can choose to sit anywhere – whether on the treasury benches or on opposition benches.

On the other hand the rule for the minority party is: it has no choice, except to look toward the majority party.

But in United Kingdom after 13 years of Labour Party’s Rule, there is a power sharing deal at the Westminster between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats thus forming the first coalition government after the World War-II.

In his speech after becoming the Prime Minister of coalition government, Mr. David Cameron said: Historic Conservative-led coalition government will be united and provide “strong and stable leadership”.

Return of Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan is an indication that in Sindh Province, there is a leadership of MQM (Mr. Altaf Hussain) backed by Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, Co-Chairman of PPP and the President of Pakistan, which makes the “strong and stable leadership” in the centre as well as in the province.
