LAHORE: The challenges associated with modern policing and special modules about morality, ethics, and public dealing will now be overcome through a basic recruit course, said Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan.

He stated this while chairing a meeting of officers regarding the training of the police force on Monday. Punjab Additional IGP Training Tariq Masood Yaseen, Punjab Additional IGP Operations Inam Ghani, and other senior officers were present in this session.

He added, “Training courses for Punjab police have been upgraded so that officials may learn and serve in the field in better ways.” He added that both operations and investigation wings of the police department should be improved in accordance with smart and community policing. The IGP reiterated that training modules should be assimilated with contemporary needs in order to make standards of investigation equal to international standards.

The IGP directed that expert, intelligent and skilled investigators should be appointed as instructors in the school of investigation. He instructed that short term refresher courses and workshops for augmenting the efficiency of officials should be completed as early as possible.  He also directed Additional IGP Training to constitute a short term special training course for officials and police stations. “Awareness regarding public dealing, stress management, emergency response, moral grooming, and laws should be focused in this training.”

The IGP highlighted that to conduct these short term courses, training at colleges and schools should be completed in phases.  He briefed officers that the standard of policing cannot be improved without improving the level of training. “The services of professional experts and skilled instructors of different institutions should be valued to ensure the best training.”
