HARIPUR:

A man here on Tuesday shot dead his brother in the jurisdiction of Khalabat Township police station. The motive behind the murder was a property dispute.

Police said that Muhammad Iqbal of Jama village was cutting trees in the fields when his younger brother, Sultan, came and tried to stop him as the tree he was cutting was on disputed property.

The brothers got into a brawl before Sultan shot his older brother with a shotgun, injuring him seriously, before quickly fleeing from the scene.

The injured was moved to Women and Children Hospital, Haripur, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The brothers were in litigation against each other over the distribution of agriculture land.

The police also foiled an attempt to smuggle opium worth over Rs250,000 and arrested the narcotics trafficker.

A police party intercepted Abdul Khaliq on a boat and recovered one kilogram of opium from him.
